Silly Nelly

I love Nelly. She's the cutest girlie! She loves our new apartment, especially since I'm home with her most days right now and she doesn't have to be in her house (our nice way of speaking of her kennel.) But more than loving our apartment, I think she just loves that we're both back from our trip and back with her.

For those of you who know Nelly, this photo will mean something to you.
This is how excited she was to see Rob when he got back. She just couldn't stop piddling. Since I've been home, she won't leave my side. Literally, if I go into a different room, she follows me, even if its just the living room to the kitchen. :)

One of her favorite things to do has always been hide under our bed.
I could hear her under the bed the other day, and I tried to call for her. Instead of her coming out, I just heard whines. She was stuck. We keep our duffel bags and Rob's shot guns under the bed, so between the bags and the guns, she couldn't get out. I had to pull some of the guns out so she could make it.

In this last move, the cloth covering started to come off our box springs. So, a few minutes after she was stuck, I heard thuds, so I looked under the bed again, and this is what I saw. This time climbed in on top of the cloth covering, so she was in between the box springs and the cloth, sitting on top of Rob's guns. This is her terrified look. She had no clue what she'd done and why suddenly everything under the bed was so different. It was hilarious.

Nelly relaxes in the funniest positions. It doesn't even look like her spine should move this way.

Her most favorite thing to do is watch out our back door. She loves laying on the back of our couch, and if you look closely, you can see that she's laying on top of one of Rob's shirts. She's in heaven: Dad's smell, comfy spot, and watching the back yard.

This is how she spends most evenings. I open the glass door and she just lays there smelling all the good smells outside through our screen door. She loves it.

And when she gets tired, she doesn't even move. She just falls asleep right there in the sun. :)

These are some pictures of the cute things Nelly does. The other things are hard to take photos of, so here they are:
  • She loves to cuddle, but not next to you...She has to be on top of you. And when she lays down, she nuzzles her head into you until it finds a good spot to settle. It's adorable.
  • When I ask if she wants a treat and then tell her to go in her house, she sprints there. She wants the treat so bad and thinks that the sooner she gets there, the sooner she'll get the treat. However, I don't run after her, so she still has to wait. :) She hasn't quite figured that out yet.
  • She comes and tells us when she has to go out. I was ironing Rob's shirts the other day and she came up to me and started whining. I thought she just wanted to play, so I didn't do anything. Then her whines got louder and she was just starting at me. So I let her out, and she definitely had to go. :)
  • She sneaks up onto our bed in the middle of the night. We always make her start in her kennel, so we can fall asleep comfortably. Then, after we're asleep, she comes up on the bed. Last night we weren't asleep yet, and heard her walking around. Then all of the sudden I saw her little white head pop up and look directly at me. I cracked up, and she came right up and cuddled next to me, under the covers, sharing my pillow. :)
  • She watches TV for the puppies on animal planet. If we say, "Look at the puppies," she looks directly at the TV.
  • She also listens to the TV. The other night, we were watching TV and a guy on the TV said "walk" in the middle of his sentence. Nelly heard it, jumped up, and was wagging her tail thinking we were going to take her on a walk. Silly girl.
  • She loves to give us kisses, but not just anywhere. She has to kiss our noses. I don't know why, but it's her favorite place. She always tries to work her way up there.
  • She talks to us. When we sit down and she comes over to us, she tries talking. It's a really loud mixture of whines, howls, and a ton of other things. I can't even describe it.
  • She knows "Mommy" and "Daddy". The other night, Rob had just let her out and she came running back in and up to me. I saw Rob getting the treats out, so I said "Is Daddy gonna give you a treat?" She ran right over to Rob. She knew Daddy had them. She's so smart!
  • She runs through our screen door when she gets excited. The other day she actually busted it off and I had to super glue it back on. Then, once when I was letting her out, I'd just opened the glass door and I guess she had to go really bad. She walked right into the screen.
  • She can recognize the sound of our truck and Rob's bike. Whenever Rob gets back, Nelly always knows before he even makes it to the door. She runs, tail wagging, to the front door, and if he doesn't come in when she thinks he should, she starts whining for him. It's adorable.
  • She runs and barks in her sleep. Her paws just gently twitch and she had this super high-pitched woof that she does when she's dreaming. I took a video of it once. It's awesome.
I love Nelly. I'm still so sad that we lost Chuck, but just keep thinking that if that hadn't happened, we never would have gotten Nelly. We've had her for a year now. It was a year on June 11th. She makes our little family so happy. We're so lucky to have such a sweet puppy who loves us so much.
