So this morning we woke up and had to go to the airport to catch our flight back to Shanghai. It left around noon. Amie and I didn’t eat breakfast, and by the time we were getting ready to board, we were starving. There was a little café really close to our gate, so we got some lunch there. I got a tuna fish sandwich and Amie got a cheeseburger and fries. I also got some whole peanuts to snack on. So on the plane, we started eating…My tuna sandwich was kind of weird. It just tasted a lot different than tuna in America. So I got the peanuts out. Those were weird too! I didn’t think peanuts changed, but apparently they do. They almost tasted like barbeque sauce. So, Amie started her burger and it was good at first. But then, she started tasting something sweet. She had no clue what it was, and it did not taste good. So she stopped, and got her fries out. The fries would have been ok, if they had been cooked all the way. Haha, it wasn’t a very good experience. My dad told us he tries never to eat airport food in China because he never knows what it will be like.
Anyways, we got home, took our luggage up to the apartment, and went out to lunch. We got a small lunch at the Blue Frog because it’s my mom’s birthday and were going out to eat tonight to celebrate. While waiting for our food, I went over to Pines and bought some movies. Actually, tons of movies. I’m trying to stock up before I leave to go home.
After lunch, my mom, Amie, and I went to the fabric market to pick up the things of mine that needed to be altered. Let’s just say it was a terrible experience! We went to the first shop, which was making a black cotton dress for me. They didn’t have the dress on Saturday like they said they would, and when we got there today, they didn’t have it either. She kept saying “one hour” but we didn’t have one hour. We were in a hurry. So they are going to deliver it tomorrow morning. Hopefully they show up, and hopefully it fits right the first time. Next, we went to the shop making a shrug for Amie and I to match some dresses we got. They didn’t have them either. She said she could have one in 10 minutes for us to try, and the other one would be ready tomorrow. Ugh. So, we then went to a place that was altering a skirt I already had. At first it was too big, then on Saturday when we came in they had made it too small. When we got there, they didn’t have it either! She said to wait 30 minutes, so we did. We got the rest of our stuff finished, and it turned out to be great. So, next was a shop making a summer dress and two dress skirts for me. The dress was great, but they had forgotten to turn in my skirts to the tailor, so they hadn’t even been worked on. She said they could be done in 30 minutes, and since we were already waiting for the other skirt, we said ok. But, when they came back with them, they still didn’t fit me. They had hardly changed them. So they went back to the tailor, and they also are going to deliver them tomorrow. We went over to the most reliable shops we’ve used to pick up a dress, and it was there. However, it wasn’t quite what I wanted. It’s a white and black polka dotted dress, with a black band and belt around the waist. They originally made the band out of the same material, so we sent it back to be changed to black. Then when we saw it today, we realized they only changed the band, and not the belt. It was a little strange. The shop owner was really upset when we realized it, because she knew it was a mistake. So she will have that ready tomorrow. Lastly, we picked up a shirt of mine and a few of my mom’s. Mom’s were too big, and mine was too small, so they’re going to fix them overnight. It was a terrible experience compared to normal. It was really weird.
When we got home, we got ready to go out for dinner. We ate at a Korean restaurant that was really good. I tried kimchi for the first time. (It’s not my favorite.) We also got bulgogi. It’s kind of a barbeque marinated beef that cooks on a sizzling pot in front of you. It was really good.
When we got home, my mom opened her presents. Amie got her some jewelry, I made her a calendar, and dad got her an iPad. She loved them all. Then we had cake and ice cream. Now we’re getting ready to head to bed. It’s getting pretty late.
Happy Birthday Mom!!
It was a wonderful b'day, especially because you were able to spend it with me! Love you!
