China Day 16 - June 2

My dad had to work again today, so it was just the girls again. We took a taxi to Star Ferry and rode that into Hong Kong Island. We then decided to take the Big Bus Tour. It was a double-decker tour bus that toured the island. We rode on the top outside, and it was so neat! They gave us all headphones so we could listen to the commentary while we rode. It wasn’t quite as hot as it was yesterday, but it was still hot and humid. It was probably at least 85 degrees outside. :) (I like the summer though, so I don’t mind the heat.)

We rode the tour bus to the Peak Tram which was a tram that took us to Victoria’s Peak. That is a tower on the top of one of the mountains on the island with a viewing observatory on top of the roof. It was really neat. It was kind of hazy, so we couldn’t see everything, but we could see a lot. I could see the whole harbor, and out the other side, I could see part of the ocean. It was fun.

On our way back down the 10 escalators we had to take up there, we found a candy shop. It was amazing! They were selling all sorts of American candies by the pound, so we all got little bags full. After the candy, we ate at Burger King. Then we rode the tram back down to ground level. The tram was almost like a roller coaster, because it had the same feeling you get when you first get on the roller coaster and are going up hill. We weren’t going fast at all, but we were so inclined that we were all pushed back in our seats. On the way down we all had to go backwards, probably because if we were sitting forwards we would fall out of our chairs. Haha.

After the peak, we got back on the tour bus and finished the tour that took us back to Star Ferry. Then we went back to the hotel. We were so exhausted just from being out all day yesterday and all day today, so we all took little naps. Then we met back up with my dad.

We ate dinner at the hotel lounge and were going back to the peak. We wanted to see the view at night with all the lights on. We walked to the subway station and took the subway under the harbor onto the island. Then we took a taxi to the tram. On the top of the tower we had our photo taken by a photographer because we thought it would turn out better than the ones we had taken with our camera, and it did. The clouds had started to lower for the night, and we were actually in them. They were floating right past us, so we still couldn’t see everything, but that’s ok. It was really neat to see it all lit up.

On our way back down, we stopped and bought a few souvenirs. We also got some gelato. Then we took the tram back down and caught a taxi back to the hotel. We just got back, and I’m dead tired. It’s been so fun being here in Hong Kong!
