China Day 8 - Wednesday May 25

Today we went to Hangzhou. It’s about 2 hours south west of Shanghai, but in traffic 3 hours. :) It’s gorgeous. Supposedly it’s one of the largest tourist destinations in China. Amie had to go to school, so it was just my parents and Rob and I, but still was really fun.

When we first got there it was about noon, so we got some lunch. We choose Burger King and then had Dairy Queen blizzards after that. :) Then we walked across the street to the lake. It’s a gorgeous lake surrounded by tons of hills/mountains. We were going to take a boat ride first, but then changed our minds and took the trolley around the lake. It stopped every so often and you could either get off, or pay more money to stay on to go farther. We got some really neat pictures, and at one of the stops was a pond with hundreds of turtles in it. They were so cool!! The little ones would try to hitch rides on the backs of some of the larger ones.

After the pond, we went to see the Pagoda. It’s like a Buddhist temple kind of, and was 5 stories high, but the building itself was already probably 5 stories off the normal ground level there. We first went in the very bottom and could see the original foundation. (It’s been rebuilt.) Then we went up to the top. Rob and I choose to take the stairs cause the line for the elevator was really long. So we hiked about 7 flights of stairs, but it was so worth it!! We could look out over the lake and the city also because the Pagoda was perfectly round and had an outside balcony around each of the floors.

After the Pagoda we got back on the trolley and rode it around to where the boats left from. We got on a large Chinese looking boat and rode it to an island in the middle of the lake. It was kind neat. There were little shops and some really pretty scenery on the island. Unfortunately it was starting to get late and little bugs were everywhere!! We didn’t stay on the island too long and then took the boat back to the mainland.

On our way back to meet Benny, Rob and I walked past some really nice car dealerships. Like Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, and a few others. He like seeing those cars. Then we met up with Benny and we left around 6 to head back. It took about 2 and a half hours to get back home, and slept almost the whole way!

We ordered Chinese food for dinner, and just relaxed the rest of the night.
