When we first woke up, we just hung out for a while around the house while Amie was at school. She was going to be home around 10:30 and then we were going out to eat with my dad. So when she got home and we were all ready, we left around noon to meet my dad at a restaurant called Bastians. It’s on a pedestrian street that was really cool, and we ate outside in the shade. Bastians is an American restaurant that was delicious! I ordered pepperoni pizza and Rob got a bacon blue cheeseburger.
After lunch, Benny (my family’s driver) took us to what’s called The Bund. It’s a street in Shanghai that is built after European styles because it was the place where all the international trading used to take place. It was built in the late 1800s/early 1900s and most of the buildings were built by Europeans who did trading in Shanghai. It was really neat, and seemed almost like you walked of China right into Europe. There was also a huge bull statue there. It was put there last year because last year was the year of the bull. (This picture was taken from the Bund looking over the river. Those buildings are some of the tallest in Shanghai, and the tallest building in the photo is the World Financial Center, which is the second tallest building in the world.)
After that we headed back to my parents place. Amie needed to get home to do some studying and my dad needed to do some work. However, when we got home, Amie didn’t study. Haha. We walked over to a place called Pines. It’s about 3 blocks away so it wasn’t that far. It’s a little grocery store that sells movies, and most of them are good quality. We paid 12 Kuai for each dvd, which is roughly $1.84. It’s not expensive at all! Rob and I bought about 5, Amie bought a few, and then we headed back home. Pines is in a mall type building, but it’s pretty small – no where near as big as the malls in the US. But, in that same building, there was a Brazilian restaurant that we want to try while we’re here. There are so many other options than Chinese food it’s actually really funny.
So, when we got home Amie did her studying and Rob and I put in a movie. I quickly fell asleep because I was so tired from jet lag. Around 7, everyone woke me up and we went out to eat at a place called Pistolera. It’s a really good Mexican restaurant. They had outside seating also, and we eat out on their deck. We walked there because it’s literally just around the corner from my parent’s apartment. (My parents used to live pretty far away from everything in a home, but moved before this school year into this apartment. It’s so much closer to everything!!)
After dinner, I was still exhausted! It was almost 9:00, and I was ready for bed. :) So we went to bed. This time we slept through the night and still woke up early. We woke up at 6:00 today and we had even closed our curtains that block almost all the sunlight. (It’s really bright in the mornings because there are no different time zones in China, so the sun rises around 5.) Anyway, we just woke up, and are getting ready to have another day of fun!!
