China Day 10 - Friday May 27

This afternoon we went out to lunch with my dad at a place called Zentral. I think it’s Swedish, but not positive. After that, we went over to pick up Amie from her graduation practice. It was at the Portman Ritz-Carlton where graduation is going to be tomorrow.

After we got Amie, we went to another underground market, but this one specialized in shoes. (Specifically heels, and Amie wanted some new ones for her graduation.) It’s called Qi Pu Lu, but I have no clue if I spelt that right. Rob and I browsed the shops and found some really neat crocs that don’t really look like crocs. We paid 100 kuai for both pairs, so they each cost us only about $7. Mine are pink, and Rob’s are black. (I love shopping here!!)

After the shoe market, we headed back home and everyone just relaxed. Amie and I walked over to Pines, which is where we can buy movies that are almost always good quality. It’s a small grocery store. Anyway, we weren’t there for very long, but I did manage to buy 5 more movies for 60 kuai, so about $8 total.

We’ve already bought tons of movies, just like we did last time we were here. But this time Amie told us to make sure and take the movies with us in our carry-ons because she said if they go through your bag and find them in your suitcase, they will fine you about $20 per disc. She said she’s heard of it happening to people, because the airport just automatically thinks you are going to sell them in the states. So, it’s good to know, and we’ll make sure all our movies are in our carry-ons.

Amie had a party to go to tonight so she didn’t hang out with us, but my parents and Rob and I went out to eat at a Brazilian Churrasco, just like Tucanos. It was awesome! It was a little smaller and didn’t have as huge of a selection of meat, but it was still really good. We even met a Brazilian who was working there, Carlos. Rob heard him talking to himself in Portuguese so he started talking to him in Portuguese too. I love that I can understand most things now! I was translating their conversation to my parents, and felt really cool. :) We even took a photo with our new Brazilian friend.

We walked there because it’s only a few blocks away, and when we got back we played some games. Rob and I taught my parents how to play Golf the card game and I think they really liked it. Then my dad, Rob, and I played a little Skip-Bo, and then decided it was time for bed. It was pretty late and had to wake up for Amie’s graduation in the morning.
