China Day 7 - Tuesday May 24

Today we went shopping! Haha, like we do most days. Only today, we had a specific goal. Rob hadn’t bought hardly anything for himself, and he really wanted to get something before he left here. He decided that he wanted some Chinese basketball shoes. (Not the fake ones you buy at the market, but the real deal from a mall.)

So, first we ate at a place called Element Fresh. It was really good. I ordered macaroni with grilled chicken and Rob got some crazy spicy Chilean chicken salad. Plus we both got smoothies. It was really good food. After lunch, we dropped my mom back off at the apartment so she could get some stuff done around the house.

Then we went to Super Brand Mall with Amie and searched all 8 stories until we found what he wanted. That mall is huge and we wanted to make sure we knew all our options. So, we found a store called Sport City that carried lots of different brands of shoes. Rob wanted either Peak or Li-Ning. They are both Chinese brands, and some NBA players actually wear them. Sport City had Li-Ning and he found some really neat looking high tops that he loved. So we got them for him, and I think they were still a good deal even though we got them from the mall. They were probably less expensive than what we would have spent in the states.

After we found his shoes, we went to see Thor. There is a movie theater on the top floor of the mall, and the movies are all in English with Chinese subtitles. So we met my parents at the theater and saw the movie. We got popcorn and drinks, but the popcorn wasn’t normal popcorn. Haha, it was similar to kettle corn, but wasn’t quite that either. It was a little strange. I couldn’t tell if I liked it or not. But we really liked the movie. Rob decided we’ll have to buy that when it comes out on dvd. We could buy it while were over here, but it won’t be good quality, it will be a copy that is recorded in the theater. Haha, so we don’t want those.

After the movie we headed back home. We had such a late lunch that we didn’t really eat dinner and just watched a movie. We watched Just go With It and it was hilarious. Unfortunately, I fell asleep halfway through the movie, which was only like 8:00! I was exhausted. But it was a good full day.

P.S. Rob’s original plans had him leaving China today and I’m so glad he didn’t have to!! He got an email from his boss saying the Idaho Falls store opening has been delayed a little more and he was trying to figure out what to do with the three guys who have already been hired. So Rob just emailed him back and asked, “What if I stayed in China another week?” His boss said that would be just fine!! So we changed his flight so that he is able to stay until Sunday, so almost a whole week longer. I’m so happy! Now instead of being in China for 5 full days, he gets to be here for 10 full days and really make the trip worth it!! (Plus, I’m really going to miss him when he leaves, and I don’t go home until June 8th, so I’m glad I get to be with him longer.
