I finally set some real goals with my trainer, Dan. Last week, after our session, we talked a lot about my desires, and what's keeping me from achieving them. We determined, it's the food I'm eating. Which is normally the cause, :). I'm in the gym really working hard for 5 days a week, sometimes 6, and I haven't lost a single pound.
So, we finally set some goals tonight. We tested my body fat percentage, and it's kinda high right now. I'm right in the middle of the "acceptable" range at 28.6%. I'd really like to drop that a ton, and make it down to 14%. That's right above essential fat percentage, so I have a ton of work to do. But, that's an incredibly long term goal, I'm not even going to set a time frame on it, I'm just going to keep working towards it.
Short term goals are where we are focusing right now. I told Dan I'd really like to loose 20 pounds, although I care much more about firmness and inches then I do weight, it's just a starting point. He thinks that might be difficult, but we're going to try. He suggested that in 3 weeks, I get my body fat percentage down to 26%. He said it's totally possible, but I really have to eat healthy to get it done. He also said by next week, he wants me to loose 2 pounds. If I've not lost 2 pounds, he said he's going to put the 45 lb weight vest on me and put me on the stair stepper for 30 minutes, and then I'll be down the 2 pounds. AHH! I definitely don't want that to happen, so I'm a lot more motivated now than I've ever been to eat healthy.
As far as foods go, he said I should not eat any carbs at dinner, or anytime after lunch. My dinner should consist of lean means and veggies, and I've done great for 3 days so far. He said breakfast is when I should eat the carbs because they are energy foods. We obviously don't need energy foods to sit down and watch TV and then go to bed. He suggested yogurts, oatmeals, and cereals for breakfasts. He didn't give me any specifics for lunch, but I can figure that out on my own. I'm going to try not eating many carbs for lunch either, and just proteins and veggies. Hopefully I don't get sick of all this healthy eating, but I think that the more I eat healthy by force, the more I will want to eat healthy by will. Last night, I got Rob to agree to no carbs at dinner. That will really help me, because if we're eating different things for dinner it gets a lot harder to commit. We had chicken and steamed veggies for dinner last night. Tonight was salmon and corn. I made extra dinner tonight so I can have it for lunch tomorrow, and I think that's what I'm going to try to do from now on. It's so easy to just make a plate of nachos when I can't think of anything else, however, if I know I have to eat my leftovers, it'll be a lot easier.
I've already stopped drinking soda, even though I only drank it once or twice a week anyways. And, we've practically completely stopped eating out. We only go out once or twice a month, because of our budget, and we've done really good at that.
So, now that I have goals, and really excited. I've never stopped working out since I started 4 months ago, but my head was never really with it either. Now, I'm in the zone I need to be. I'm really motivated and excited that I've finally got Dan on board and he's definitely going to hold me responsible to meeting those goals.
I'm going to try and update this every Tuesday night after my training session. It'll be nice to be able to look and and see my results so obvious, (I'm hoping!). It's also the perfect time because Rob plays basketball every Tuesday evening. (I'm going to post my actual numbers on here, even though it's kinda embarrassing right now. I need a place to write them down that won't get lost, and this is it. Don't judge. Haha.) So, from here on out, I'm going to be working extra hard!!
Goals:
By 5/22/12: Loose 2 pounds and weigh 148
By 6/5/12: Have a body fat percentage of 26%
Go Melissa! You can totally do this! I'm in the same boat you are. I've been running like crazy and haven't lost any weight, but I just know it's because I can't say goodbye to my sweettooth. You're motivating me to try. Good luck.
