Well, I'm doing it!! I've been going to the gym 6 days a week for the past 2 weeks now. It's getting easier and easier to want to go. I feel relieved when I'm there. I never realized this, but working out is a great stress reliever!! I love using the cardio machines and pushing as hard as I can because it forces everything else I had been thinking about out of my mind.
I decided the other day that I wanted to get a personal trainer. It's not like I don't have the motivation enough to do this on my own, its just that I don't know exactly how to do this. I want to be more fit than I've been in my whole life, so I definitely need a little help knowing how to get there. I had two free sessions with Dan, one of the trainers there. One was last week and it was basically just a walk through of the machines. He told me which ones would be best for me to use and he showed me how to use them with proper technique. We talked about his pricing a little bit and when I showed real interest, he said he'd give me a free "real" workout session - that was this past Tuesday evening. We did ropes, which, for anyone who doesn't know what that it, it is the most intense workout I've ever had!! I used a 40ft long, 2 inch thick, 40 pound rope folded in half and weighted down on the end folded. My objective was to send waves down the rope for 30 seconds at a time in certain positions. It was so hard, I was sweating beads only after 20 seconds. We did 8 different positions for 30 seconds each, and that was all. Apparently, the ropes use every muscle in your body at the exact same time. It burns so many more calories than almost everything else. He said up to speed, you could burn 900 calories in 27 minutes!! Oh, but I only did a quarter of the real circuit. (I can't imagine how I'll ever be able to do the whole thing.)
Anyway, after talking to Rob, I decided I wanted to train with him once a week. I signed my agreement yesterday, and he recommended at least 6 months to make it worth it, so I went with what he said. I now have a personal trainer for at least the next 6 months. I'm almost positive I'll be able to hit my goal now.
I've been working really hard this last week. I've been rotating every other day cardio and weight lifting. Dan recommend it the first time I met with him. He said if I'm doing both cardio and weights everyday, even if I do give my muscles a day to rest and alternate days of legs and arms, my body will get worn out too quickly. Tonight I did cardio. It's my least favorite of the days, but I know it has to be done. He said to maybe do a combination of a few machines, so I don't get too bored. So, tonight I did a machine they have that is almost like cross country skiing. I have no clue what it's name is, but it's one of my favorites. I did that for 30 minutes and then I did the stair stepper for 15 minutes. I didn't think I would last the whole 15 minutes, but I did. I just made myself. I'm working on the whole "mind over body" thing. I've done pretty well at it so far. I tell myself I'm gonna do something for 30 minutes, and I've never stopped early. I just go a bit slower if I really need. However, I might not be setting my standards hight enough. I just have to remember to keep pushing myself. That's another reason why it'll be nice to be working with a trainer.
I feel confident that I can workout like I've wanted, but the thing I have to really work on now is eating healthier. I've already dropped soda. I don't have an appetite for it anymore, which I am really happy about. I don't crave sweets as much as I used to, but I still do every once and a while. Especially since my boss bought our department candy, and it's right on my desk. :) But, I think I can probably avoid them, as long as I keep working out. Being active makes me not want things like that. However, my hard part is going to be making sure the things I do eat are healthy and essential nutrients.
So, anyways, I have lots to work on for now. I have a ton I have to tackle mentally. I think I can do it, it'll just take a ton of self control.
My first session is on Tuesday! Maybe we'll do the ropes again!
